There are a number of things that could negate this story, but it is still one of those rumors that you just really hope is true. A screen shot of the iPhone loading the site lonelyplanet.com, shows the device rendering out Flash content on the site. The site has a mini map on the side, that looks a certain way when loaded up in Flash, and also a certain way when loaded up without it.

That is what the site looks like under iPhone firmware 1.1.4, a flat map with no Flash, and no variations. It is clearly very different from the screen shot of a normal desktop web browser, loading the site up, with full Flash support.

As you can see in this screen shot from a desktop, the map is a little fancier. It has color variations, and also hover effects and mouse over actions.

Lastly, this is how it looks on the iPhone 3G. Well, this is how it might look. Clearly the device shows a full version of the page in the browser, but this is almost certainly marketing material. Meaning screen rendering, and this could be an oversight by Apple. On the more exciting side, Apple could have thrown in Flash support and waited for someone to catch on to this little detail, you decide.

So, what’s with the new iPhone 3G?

Well, it’s pretty much the same iPhone as before — except now it’s down to $200, and has way faster 3G data, A-GPS (which is even better than regular GPS), as well as a flush headphone jack (which is great for anyone who doesn’t want to use Apple’s bundled headphones). How’d they get the price so low? The iPhone used to be crazy expensive.

Actually, depending on how you do the math it’s not actually cheaper. Now, in some countries the iPhone is free when you sign up for service, and in the US you’ll pay $200 for the 8GB model — half what it was a month ago — so you’re definitely paying less up front. But the data plans cost more now, so you might wind up spending more money over the long run.

Yet another update to the iPhone firmware 2.0 and the SDK have leaked out. The new firmware has been dubbed 5a308. This build was released today, along with a fresh build of the SDK. The new SDK is 1221.8MB, so it is a little bigger than the last release, which was the fifth such release. It is not known yet if this is the firmware beta that adds the rumored geo tagging features.

The firmware is fresh off the server, and the details about it are few. What we do know right now is that the new SDK requires developers to register an application ID, suggesting that they are tightening things up in anticipation of the launch, which is rumored to be soon. Application IDs are required for provisioning now, all previous provisioning is now longer valid.

Another interesting thing is you must be running OSX 10.5.3, which was just released this morning. It is odd that Apple would cut off the still large amount of users running Tiger, or 10.4. The new updates release notes were uploaded to Apple

Mythical hybrid from cell phone and mp3 player from Apple. The most awaiting device of the year of 2006 which release was postponed a lot of times. It had to roll over all electronic gadget world as iPod rolled over musical industry. Geeks were in expectation line. All internet had a lot of rumors about that gadget and full of unbelievable pix.

It’s sounds funny but i can’t imagine my life without iPhone now and I come up against a little bit difficulty when i try to use regular push-button cell phone :)

Rubicon Consulting published data from an online survey of 460 “randomly” selected iPhone users. Full PDF of results is available from Rubicon. They claim there’s a 3.8% margin of error with a 90% confidence interval, but the validity of the data depends on how truly random their sampling was.

Summary of results:

- Email is the #1 function.
- iPhone increases mobile browsing with 75% of iPhone users saying it has led to more mobile browsing
- 50% of iPhone owners replaced conventional (non-smartphones) mobile phones.
- 1/3 of iPhone users carry a 2nd phone
- 1/4 of iPhone users say its displacing a notebook computer.
- 40% of iPhone users said “strongly” that they want to add new software apps.
- 40% if iPhone users said the browser has trouble with some web pages they want to visit

According to Gartner analyst Ken Dulaney, Apple has ordered 10 million iPhones made to operate on 3G networks, based on the rumours he has heard in Asia. This is an additional 10 million, to current gen phones which Apple hopes to sell by the end of 2008.

Dulaney also said that 3G iPhone uses an Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) display which would lead to a thinner phone and longer battery life
