iPhone assembly line gets X-ray inspection and iOS three times faster for HTML 5

Android, iPhone, news March 6th, 2012

Foxconn assembles the iPhone and iPads for Apple as we all know. The company is adding an additional inspection point to its line to keep quality up. Foxconn is said to be adding X-Ray inspection to its assembly lines. A person claiming to have knowledge of the new edition claims that the company is purchasing machines in unprecedented quantities. It’s not clear right now this is good or bad, Foxconn may be trying to produce the iOS devices with less defects. Foxconn could also be reducing workers by automating some inspections. The machines will inspect printed circuit boards and soldered joints. A new report is claiming that iOS is three times faster in HTML 5 performance than Android. The tip comes from a company called Spaceport . Different platforms were tested by the company using its PerfMarks report. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was able to show 100 objects on the screen at once. The iPhone 4S is able to show 200 objects at once in the iPad 2 showed 300 at once.

ATT increases that throttling threshold and Square to allow taxi payments

AT&T, news March 2nd, 2012

AT&T has been catching a lot of heat recently over the throttling of data speeds for consumers that go over a certain bandwidth allowance each month. This is despite the fact that some studies have shown throttling does nothing to alleviate congestion on networks. AT&T has now announced that it will make adjustments to the data throttling policy for customers that have legacy unlimited plans. Under the new plan consumers now have higher data caps before their speed is throttled. HSPA+ plans now have a 3 GB per month cap with LTE plans getting 5 GB. Some customers on unlimited data plans have claimed previously that they were throttled after 2 GB of data was used. Square has offered an accessory for accepting mobile payments for the iPhone and iPad for a while now. Square has now announced that you’ll soon be able to pay for taxi rides using an iPad running the Square app inside the cab. Presumably, taxies could use an iPhone and the accessory as well. Passengers will even be able to use the iPad to surf the web during the ride.

Voice Actions vs Siri, Apple could ban Evi, AT&T may charge devs for data

Android, apps, AT&T, iPhone, news February 28th, 2012

The iPhone and Android smartphones are constantly battling on the smartphone market. Motorola has been pushing its own Voice Actions feature on some of its new smartphones against Siri on the iPhone in a comparison video , which you think is better? Apple could possibly ban the Evi app from the App Store for being so similar to Siri. Apple has been known to do that in the past, it remains to be seen what happens in this case. AT&T has revealed plans to launch a new service that will allow mobile app developers the option of paying for the data used by the app subscribers. The plan is a way for the developers to position an app along the lines of an 800 phone number where they will pay for data rather than it coming off the users plan.

Panasonic outs new AirPlay speaker and T-Mobile wants to fight iPhone 4S with LTE in 2013

airplay, news, T-Mobile February 23rd, 2012

Panasonic has debuted a new AirPlay speaker for the iPhone and other devices in Japan today. The speakers called the SC-AP01 and it has a very thin 59 mm profile. The profile makes the speaker easy to place anywhere you want in a room. It also has technology to provide a 3-D soundscape for better audio quality anywhere in the room. It has 10 w of power and different equalizer settings. The speakers use bamboo fibers for crisp sound. Panasonic also offers a remote control app that provides full control of the speaker via the iPhone. T-Mobile has been seeing subscribers jump ship as people move to the iPhone 4S on other carriers. The company has admitted to not having iPhone led to contract deactivations in Q4 2011. The carrier plans to fight some those deactivations by adding LTE service in 2013 and I would bet it would be looking to get the next version of the iPhone on the network as well. I feel sure the next iPhone will be available on almost all carriers in the United States.
