Google Sync Beta for iPhone

tricks February 11th, 2009

Now we can synchronize our contacts and calendar with GMAIL Contact and Google Calendar using PUSH technology. It really easy to setup that in your iPhone. Just select Microsoft Exchange when adding new account. For iPhone and Windows Mobile devices, Google Sync allows you to get your Gmail Contacts and Google Calendar events to your phone. Once you set up Sync on your phone, it will automatically begin synchronizing your address book and calendar in the background, over-the-air, so you can attend to other tasks. Sync uses push technology so any changes or additions to your calendar or contacts are reflected on your device in minutes. The connection is always on so you don’t have to manually sync your phone after Sync has been set up. This means that when your colleague changes the time of the TPS report cover sheets meeting, you’ll know about it right away.

Since Sync is a two-way service, you can make changes on your phone or in your Google Account. Your calendar and contacts are always up-to-date, no matter where you are or what you’re doing. Also, since your data is automatically backed up to your Google Account, it’s securely stored even if you lose your phone.

Sync: Set Up Your iPhone or iPod Touch

Important! Google Sync uses the Microsoft© Exchange ActiveSync© protocol. When setting up a new Exchange ActiveSync account on your iPhone, all existing Contacts and Calendar events will be removed from your phone. Please make sure to back up any important data before you set up Google Sync.

Great trick to convert video from YouTube to .mp4 without any software

tricks November 12th, 2008

For example you wanna save following video from youtube.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXRH50fvHWA as mp4 file on your computer. Just add mp4 after http://www.youtube and before .com in the address bar, e.g. http://www.youtubemp4.com/watch?v=YXRH50fvHWA and click on it. On the opened page you will get the link to download mp4 file. Save Link As from context menu of your browser (click right mouse button on the link to display context menu). Now you can add that file to your iTunes library and synchronize with your iPhone/iPod.

Feel free to ask if something is not quite clear.

LockScreen Tricks with LockDockBar and QuickUnlock

Cydia, apps, tricks October 29th, 2008

Both released tonight via the MMi Cydia repo LockDockBar and QuickUnlock provide some extra features and functionality to your iPhone’s lockscreen.

Click the image to open in full size.

LockDockBar

This utility puts your Phone, Mail, SMS, and Calendar apps on your lock screen above slide to unlock for quick and easy access. Just a quick install from Cydia and you can access all four of the applications mentioned above with a quick finger tap from the lockscreen. No slide to unlocked needed.

QuickUnlock

QuickUnlock provides more options for locking/unlocking your iPhone. If your phone is locked simply hit the home button three times to unlock temporarily. After you hit the home button three times you’ll be able to browse around your home screen for 10 seconds. If you do not choose an app or hit the home button again during those ten seconds your phone will re-lock automatically.

Great iPhone trick not everyone knows

tricks September 16th, 2008

Today i realised myself useful iPhone trick. When you have a call with someone and need to check information on your iPhone e.g. SMS or e-mail data, some necessary note or contact phone number you don’t need to hang up. Just press Home button once and you will return to the home screen. You will see ”touch to return to call” green banner at the top of the phone.

You can run any application you want. But you can’t use 3G/GPRS/EDGE requests while you calling. When i was trying to run Weather or Stocks apps i got an error message ”Cellular data connections are not available during this call”. To return to you call screen you can touch on the green banner or just press Home button twice.

Good luck :)

2) Open iTunes 7.7, connect your iPhone and hold Home + Sleep/Wake button until it put into Restore more

3) Restore iPhone to Original 2.0 Firmware via iTunes 7.7 (Holding SHIFT on your keyboard press Restore button and select iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw) Quit iTunes when iPhone will be restored.

Internationalize your iPhone .com key

news, tricks March 23rd, 2008

Today Mac OS X hints offers an easily overlooked internationalization hint. You probably know already that you can hold down a key on the iPhone keyboard to select international versions of a character (eg. Accented characters).

iPhone Accented Trick

What you might not have know about was the regional domains. In settings, choose General > Keyboards and enable some of those international keyboards.

Next go to Safari and start to enter a new URL. Tap the globe to switch the active keyboard from US English to some other nationality. (Russian is shown here.) Finally, tap and hold the .com button. After a second, a regionalized version of .com appears just to the left of the default.

Adding lyrics to your favorite songs on iPhone

apps, tricks March 1st, 2008

Is it sometimes difficult to understand the lyrics of your favorite tune?

CNET has posted a small video tutorial of how you can do it. You can view it here.

In brief it explains that you can copy lyrics into the lyrics option in song properties on iTunes. Of course you paste lyrics which you found on the internet before.

You can also use Soundcrank plug-in which will get your favorite lyrics automatically.
