AeroDream One media player, AT&T may not have to pay fee if merger fails, T-Mobile to start iPhone 5 pre-order

AT&T, news, T-Mobile September 5th, 2011

The AeroDream One has to be the largest and most powerful media player ever. The thing is so tall you need a ladder to get to the dock for the iPhone and it has 10,000 watts of power for a cool € 399,000. AT&T may not have to pay that rumored $6 billion breakup fee if the merger with T-Mobile fails. Apparently, if T-Mobile loses too much value or if the merger isn’t approved quickly enough AT&T doesn’t have to pay. T-Mobile is reportedly starting to take pre-orders on the iPhone 5 today. This is despite the fact that we have no idea what the phone will be called, when it will launch, or what the phone will cost. The coupons given don’t specify a name or launch date.

Smartphone OS dominance, Orange Film to Go, Apple disabling non dev iOS 5 beta devices

ios, news, orange, update August 8th, 2011

ComScore has offered up data on the dominance of certain smartphone OS’ on a state-by-state level. It appears that most of the iOS dominance is in the north and east parts of the US with most middle and southern states leaning towards Android. Orange is offering a new Film to Go service that offers a pre-selected free movie rental via iTunes each Thursday that can be watched at any time in the following 30 days. The films should work on your iPhone in a WiFi area. Apple is reportedly disabling any iOS 5 device that isn’t a developer device. Right now, the OS is meant for registered developers only.

Apple is at the top of the smartphone market, AT&T to revoke unlimited plans of those that tether

Apple, AT&T, iPhone, news August 5th, 2011

The latest numbers are in for the smartphone market that look at what firm is the most popular in the segment. Apple is the top vendor with the iPhone commanding 19.1% of the market. The second place spot goes to Samsung with 16.2% of the phones sold. It never ceases to impress me that Apple is able to pull of the sales volume it can with the US device still on two carriers only and only two iPhone models on the market. It makes me wonder what Apple could do if they let all carriers have the device and had more iPhone models. AT&T will revoke the unlimited data plans of anyone that it catches tethering with an unofficial app. That means even if you were grandfathered in for true unlimited the carrier will take that away from you and move you to the more expensive limited plan.

1M iPhones on T-Mobile, Apple expected to lose Appstore battle, appBlaster gun for iPhone

App Store, game, news, T-Mobile June 23rd, 2011

T-Mobile USA has let go with an interesting statistic. The network has over a million iPhones on its network even though it doesn’t offer the device. Apparently, the users cut down T-Mobile SIMs to work but don’t get 3G or 4G data speeds. Apple took Amazon to court for trademark infringement when Amazon launched its Appstore. The judge in the case has now said she will probably rule against Apple’s request to force Amazon to ditch the name because there has been no proof of confusion with customers. A cool accessory for the iPhone turned up called the appBlaster . It is a gun that works with an AR game letting players shoot aliens in their home.

No AT&T iPhone Mobile Hotspot Means iOS 4.3 Will Most Likely Not Drop On/Before February 13th

AT&T, ios 4.3, news February 10th, 2011

No AT&T iPhone Mobile Hotspot Means iOS 4.3 Will Most Likely Not Drop On/Before February 13th Post from: FSMdotCOM Last week when AT&T announced that new data tethering plans will roll out on February 13th , most people speculated that the news singled the public release of iOS 4.3 which would take advantage of the mobile hotspot feature.  Unfortunately, an internal AT&T email, says that the mobile hotspot feature will not be available at the time, which also means that iOS 4.3 will most likely not drop on/before February 13th. Read the internal AT&T email after the break… HSPA+ Plans As AT&T introduces HSPA+ devices to the handset portfolio, new smartphone data plan SOC codes are required for these devices. These codes are provisioned to allow our customers to take advantage of the faster data speeds. AT&T is offering these plans at the same price point as the non HSPA+ plans. Important Note: HSPA+ devices will not support a data experience without an HSPA+ data plan. Anyone who swaps their SIM from a 3G device to an HSPA+ device, must update their smartphone data plan to an HSPA+ plan. Tethering Plan Changes Effective February 13, 2011, there will be new tethering plans designed to ensure customers get more usage out of their smartphone tethering plans from bucket size increases. Smartphones New tethering plans for all smartphones (BlackBerry, WP7, iPhone, Android, etc.). Formerly $45.00/2GB (shared data) with $10.00/GB overage. Currently $45.00/4GB (share data) with $10.00/GB overage. Existing smartphone with tethering subscribers will be auto-migrated to the new plan by February 14, 2011. 4G Netbook/Notebook and Dongles Formerly $60.00/5GB with $10.00/GB overage. Currently $50.00/5GB with $10.00/GB overage. Existing 4G dongle base can migrate to the new plan; existing 3G base require 4G dongle for new pricing. AT&T Mobile Hotspot AT&T will introduce several devices throughout the year that feature the AT&T Mobile Hotspot. This great product allows customers to create their very own Wi-Fi Hotspot by connecting up to five Wi-Fi devices at a time, all of which share the customer’s data plan bucket. In order to utilize this great functionality, a smartphone data plan with tethering is required. Smartphone Data Portfolio FAQs Why do I need an HSPA+ data plan code for HSPA+ devices? These codes are provisioned to allow our customers with HSPA+ devices within HSPA+ markets to take advantage of the faster data speeds. Are the HSPA+ Smartphone Data Plans more expensive? No. These plans are being offered to customers for the same great price as the non-HSPA+ plans. What happens if a customer puts a SIM card into and HSPA+ device, but the Smartphone data plan on the account is not HSPA+? If a SIM is placed into an HSPA+ device without an HSPA+ smartphone data plan, the customer will not be able to use data services. It is very simple for the customer to update their smartphone data plan via Manage My Account, Calling Customer Care, or visiting a local retail location. Why is AT&T changing the current tethering plans to include 4GB of data versus 2GB? With the launch of AT&T Mobile Hotspot, AT&T understands that customers will want/need to use more data. Therefore, to ensure the best possible experience with the service and to allow customers to get more usage out of their smartphone tethering plan, the bucket size has been doubled. It is all about lagniappe. Do existing customers get the benefit of the increased bucket size on the tethering plans? Yes. Existing smartphone tethering customers will automatically be migrated to the new plans the week of February 14, 2011. They will receive an SMS alert notifying them of the increased bucket size once they have been migrated. When the new tethering plans go into effect, how will it affect customers who are in the middle of a billing period? AT&T will re-rate any bill cycle usage to 4GB from the start of the billing period. If my customer purchases a device that has AT&T Mobile Hotspot capabilities, how will they be billed if others use their Wi-Fi capability? All connected devices will share the customer’s smartphone data plan bucket. Ensure your customer is aware of the many different ways to manage data usage: Dial *DATA# from the wireless phone. Log into the Online Customer Account Management (OLAM) tool. Log into the Data Plan Web site to learn more about managing data. Access the Data Calculator tool. Will my iPhone customers have the AT&T Mobile Hotspot capability? Not at this time. What exactly happens if my customer exceeds their monthly data plan amount? When a customer use more data than that included within their plan, they will continue to have access to additional usage based on their plan type, and will be billed an overage per the plan details.

AT&T Responds To Verizon With A New iPhone Ad [video]

AT&T, iPhone, news, verizon, video February 5th, 2011

AT&T Responds To Verizon With A New iPhone Ad [video] Post from: FSMdotCOM Yesterday  Verizon released their first iPhone 4 ad , where they basically say that now, you can finally place calls on your iPhone . Today, AT&T responds with their own ad saying that only AT&T’s network lets your iPhone talk and surf at the same time. In this Network spot, a man is working late in his office when he receives a call from his wife. When she asks about the plans for their anniversary that night, a frantic look crosses his face as he realizes he has forgotten the big night. Mid-call, he is able to pull up the browser of his iPhone and search for restaurants. Playing it cool, he talks up the night’s plans while making the reservations from his phone. The ad feels a little bit ‘rushed’, but it will be fun to assist at this AT&T vs Verizon ‘war’. See the ad after the jump…
