iOS 5 Beta 1 Jailbroken On iPod Touch 4G

Apple, ios, iPhone, jailbreak, news June 7th, 2011

Since Apple can’t patch the bootrom exploit, of course iOS 5 is jailbreakable. Above you can see screenshots from MuscleNerd’s iPod Touch 4G which is running iOS 5 jailbroken via limera1n + tethered boot. That means that when the final version will come out, all the jailbreaking tools will be updated relatively quick but, in the meantime ( especially unlockers ) should stay away from the betas. If you update to any of the iOS 5 betas, you can downgrade your device ONLY if you have the SHSH blobs saved ( except iPad 2 ) Also,  iPad2-GSM and iPad2-CDMA owners must stay clear of all 5.0 betas to stay eligible for any potential 4.3.3 JB. Stay tuned for more updates…

The Great People Behind The First iOS Jailbreak Convention: MyGreatFest Have Just Upped Their Game Post from: FSMdotCOM The great people behind the first iOS jailbreak convention, MyGreatFest, have just upped their game again. They have gotten p0sixninja on board. If you’re into the iOS jailbreak scene, you of course have heard of p0sixninja and his work with the Chronic Dev team. Heck, I’m sure you have probably even use one of the Chronic Dev tools, such as Greenpois0n or the tethered boot tool for booting a tethered jail broken device. Well, here’s your chance to meet him. p0sixninja, aka Josh Hill, has agreed to head across the pond and share some of his secrets and give a talk at the MyGreatFest convention. But he’s gonna need a little help to get there. So the kind folks at the MyGreatFest have set up a donation page, and leader board, to drum up some funds to help Josh attend and ease the hit to his pockets. So, head on over to http://mygreatfest.net/?p=1290 and check it out. Give what you can, whether it’s a donation or just help spread the word. If the UK MyGreatFest is successful, it will be heading to the States in 2012 so let’s help them out in any way we can.

The iPhone DevTeam Updates PwnageTool And RedSn0w To Fix Bugs

ios, jailbreak, news, untethered May 8th, 2011

The iPhone DevTeam Updates PwnageTool And RedSn0w To Fix Bugs Post from: FSMdotCOM Just a quick heads-up: PwnageTool and redsn0w have been updated to include a fix for the iPhone3GS/i4 side switch vibration issue (only for 4.3.3!). If you’re already jailbroken at 4.3.3 (by either redsn0w rc15 or custom IPSW), you can install this fix simply by running redsn0w rc16 over your existing 4.3.3 jailbreak. Just uncheck the “Install Cydia” option and check any other options you want. The fix will be installed no matter what you’ve selected. This is safe for even ultrasn0w unlockers to do (because redsn0w itself won’t update your baseband…only an iTunes stock IPSW update/restore will do that). redsn0w rc16 has a few more improvements: Windows 7 and Vista users should no longer need to set their CPU affinity…just run redsn0w as Administrator in XP compatiblity mode. Also, the “verbose boot” option for old-bootrom iPhone 3GS has been fixed for 4.3.3 (remember: old-bootrom 3GS users can even have custom bootlogos that show right at power-up). Cydia Search: New Way To Search Cydia From Your Computer

app, browser, Cydia, ios, iPad, iPhone, jailbreak, news May 6th, 2011

Cydia Search: New Way To Search Cydia From Your Computer Post from: FSMdotCOM Searching for the perfect Jailbreak app in Cydia on the iPhone can be a frustratingly slow experience. Cydia Search eases your pain by allowing you to browse through the plethora of Cydia apps by category, repository or author, all from the comfort of a desktop browser. If you know what you’re looking for, you can search by name, description, author, version number or one of the many other search filters, which should make short work of finding what you’re looking for. Once you’ve located a package you’re interested in, you can check out who wrote it, the price, the current version, which repository it’s stored on, as well as view the actual Cydia entry as it would appear on an iPhone. While this isn’t the first implementation of a desktop Cydia interface – ModMyi also provides a  searchable front end for Cydia on the desktop — Cydia Search provides a fast, slick experience that’s well worth checking out. You can find Cydia Search here … [ via tuaw]

HOW TO: Use Redsn0w 0.9.6rc15 To Untethered Jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 [Mac & Windows ]

jailbreak, news, untethered May 6th, 2011

HOW TO: Use Redsn0w 0.9.6rc15 To Untethered Jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 [Mac & Windows ] Post from: FSMdotCOM Great news from the iPhone DevTeam this morning… they’ve updated redsn0w to untethered jailbreak iOS 4.3.3. Today’s redsn0w incorporates @i0n1c’s port to 4.3.3 (it’s ironic that such a long-lasting untether doesn’t even have an official name!). It also of course uses geohot’s limera1n bootrom exploit to inject the jailbreak. The 4.3.3 untether works on all devices that actually support 4.3.3 except for the iPad2: iPhone3GS iPhone4 (GSM) iPod touch 3G iPod touch 4G iPad1 AppleTV2G (v4.3 8F202) As always, ultrasn0w unlockers should stay away from redsn0w and only update their firmware through a custom IPSW. NOTES FOR UNLOCKERS: redsn0w will allow you to update your iPhone’s ( 3G/3Gs) baseband to 06.15 ( iPad baseband ) . This is only necessary if you are on baseband 05.14, 05.15 or higher and you want to unlock. This is NOT necessary for the jailbreaking process. Also please read ( twice if you need to ) the notes below and  understand the  CONSEQUENCES OF UPDATING TO 06.15. There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there’s no hiding the baseband version from Apple.  You’ll be voiding your warranty in a very obvious way. If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won’t be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn’t update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway). Starting with FW 4.2.1 if you have 06.15 on your iPhone you won’t ever be able to restore to stock firmware(it will fail).  You’ll need to only restore to custom IPSWs (then again, if you’re unlocking, you should already be doing that). Certainly don’t update to 06.15 if you don’t need to!   Only do this if you need the unlock and you’re stuck on 05.14 or 05.15, and you’re willing to assume the above risks. You need: redsn0w 0.9.6rc15 for Mac or Windows iOS 4.3.3 How to: NOTE: the below tutorial uses screenshots from our previous redsn0w tutorial. Don’t worry about it, the necessary adjustments have been made and the process is exactly the same. 1. Download redsn0w and unzip it. Also download iOS 4.3.3 appropriate for your device 2. Connect your device to iTunes, select your device from the sidebar on the left and Alt+click ( Mac ) or Shift+click ( Windows ) on restore. Browse for iOS 4.2.3 that you just downloaded and restore your device ( unlockers be careful ) 3. After you restore your device, load redsn0w, click the browse button and select the same 4.3.3 .ipsw that you used to restore your device. 4. Wait for redsn0w to verify the .ipsw and click Next 5. Wait a few seconds for redsn0w to prepare the jailbreaking data 6. In the next window select the option you like. MAKE SURE Cydia is selected and click Next NOTE Bootlogo rules: RGB or Grayscale format with Alpha channel and dimension below 320×480. NOTE if you choose to update your iPhone’s baseband to 06.15 you will be prompted with this message ( please make sure you understand the consequences – notes above ) 7. Plug-in your device, turn it off and click on Next 8. Now you will have to put your device in DFU mode. redsn0w will guide you through it… 9. Now, your device will reboot. The rest of the process will take place on your device. Wait for redsn0w to prompt you that it’s done, and click on Finish 10. That’s it. Enjoy!

Join Or Organize A Jailbreaking Meetup In Your Area Post from: FSMdotCOM Are you a jailbreaking aficionado? Do you love showing off your modded phone? Want to chat about tweaks, apps, and more? Now you can use this community to organize a Jailbreaking Meetup in your area! From Tampa, Florida and New York City, to Valparaiso, Indiana and Everett, Washington, jailbreak meetups are already taking root ahead of this summer’s first ever “Global Jailbreak Meetup Day” – July 10, 2011 – a date set to commemorate the original iPhone jailbreak release. If you’re unfamiliar with Meetup.com, it’s an online destination for people (7.2 million strong) to organize a local group or find one of the many (thousands) that are already meeting face-to-face around the world. Signing up is free and creating an account is easy. Once you’re logged in, you can either create your own jailbreak meetup location and time (say, Panera in Anytown, USA on May 5th at 3:00 pm), or you can find a scheduled jailbreak meetup that’s already planned somewhere close by and click “count me in” to let the meeting organizer know you’re attending. To find out more about Jailbreak Meetups, check out the  official page and, if you’re so inclined, sign up and connect with others in the jailbreak community. If you do, be sure to tag any relevant tweets, photos, and videos with #JailbreakMeetup. [ via mmi]
