Apple iCloud

Apple, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Mac, news June 7th, 2011

Apple introduced iCloud, a breakthrough set of free new cloud services that work seamlessly with applications on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or PC, to automatically and wirelessly store your content in iCloud and automatically and wirelessly push it to all your devices. When anything changes on one of your devices, all of your devices are wirelessly updated almost instantly. iCloud will be available this fall concurrent with iOS 5. Users can sign up for iCloud for free on an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 5 or a Mac running Mac OS X Lion with a valid Apple ID. iCloud includes 5GB of free cloud storage for Mail, Document Storage and Backup. Purchased music, apps, books and Photo Stream do not count against the storage limit. Further updates regarding these latest developments from Apple are available through the official Apple  website . Former MobileMe Services – Contacts, Calendar and Mail—all completely re-architected and rewritten to work seamlessly with iCloud. Users can share calendars with friends and family, and the ad-free push Mail account is hosted at me.com. Your inbox and mailboxes are kept up-to-date across all your iOS devices and computers. App Store and iBookstore – Download purchased iOS apps and books to all your devices, not just the device they were purchased on. In addition, the App Store and iBookstore now let you see your purchase history, and simply tapping the iCloud icon will download any apps and books to any iOS device (up to 10 devices) at no additional cost. iCloud Backup – Automatically and securely backs up your iOS devices to iCloud daily over Wi-Fi when you charge your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Backed up content includes purchased music, apps and books, Camera Roll (photos and videos), device settings and app data. If you replace your iOS device, just enter your Apple ID and password during setup and iCloud restores your new device. iCloud Storage – Seamlessly stores all documents created using iCloud Storage APIs, and automatically pushes them to all your devices. When you change a document on any device, iCloud automatically pushes the changes to all your devices. Apple’s Pages®, Numbers® and Keynote® apps already take advantage of iCloud Storage. Users get up to 5GB of free storage for their mail, documents and backup—which is more amazing since the storage for music, apps and books purchased from Apple, and the storage required by Photo Stream doesn’t count towards this 5GB total. Users will be able to buy even more storage, with details announced when iCloud ships this fall. Photo Stream – iCloud’s innovative Photo Stream service automatically uploads the photos you take or import on any of your devices and wirelessly pushes them to all your devices and computers. So you can use your iPhone to take a dozen photos of your friends during the afternoon baseball game, and they will be ready to share with the entire group on your iPad (or even Apple TV®) when you return home. Photo Stream is built into the photo apps on all iOS devices, iPhoto® on Macs, and saved to the Pictures folder on a PC. To save space, the last 1,000 photos are stored on each device so they can be viewed or moved to an album to save forever. Macs and PCs will store all photos from the Photo Stream, since they have more storage. iCloud will store each photo in the cloud for 30 days, which is plenty of time to connect your devices to iCloud and automatically download the latest photos from Photo Stream via Wi-Fi. iTunes – iCloud lets you download your previously purchased iTunes music to all your iOS devices at no additional cost, and new music purchases can be downloaded automatically to all your devices. In addition, music not purchased from iTunes can gain the same benefits by using iTunes Match, a service that replaces your music with a 256 kbps AAC DRM-free version if we can match it to the over 18 million songs in the iTunes Store®, it makes the matched music available in minutes (instead of weeks to upload your entire music library), and uploads only the small percentage of unmatched music. iTunes Match will be available this fall for a $24.99 annual fee. Apple today is releasing a free beta version of iTunes in the Cloud, without iTunes Match, for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users running iOS 4.3. iTunes in the Cloud will support all iPhones that iOS 5 supports this fall.

Notacious: Write Notes And Sync Them Across Devices With Ease

app, App Store, AppStore, ios, iPhone, iPod Touch, news May 13th, 2011

Notacious: Write Notes And Sync Them Across Devices With Ease Post from: FSMdotCOM We all have stuff to do. And we all need reminders, list and nudges to keep us on track. You could use the stock Apple notes app, and sync thru email or pay the 99$ and use mobile me syncing. Too expensive? Notacious takes care of that for you at a much better price. With a web version, and an iOS app, you can quickly manage all of you notes and list from where ever you are. Need to share a note? No problem. Email it or copy and paste it right from within the app. Lots of thought have gone into the development of this deceptively simple looking note taking app. From the ease of changing the color and font style in the notes, to the simple to use navigation, and clean over all interface. Over all, Notacious for the iPhone is a winner. We even used Notacious to write this review. Now, if they’d just bring out an iPad version that utilizes the bigger keyboard and larger note taking area it would round out perfection. Notacious is available for $0.99 in the app store . ( Purchase the premium account. You wont be disappointed. )

MotionBeam: Explores The Use Of Handheld Projectors To Interact And Control Projected Characters [video]

game, ios, iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, news May 10th, 2011

MotionBeam: Explores The Use Of Handheld Projectors To Interact And Control Projected Characters [video] Post from: FSMdotCOM The MotionBeam is a project by  Disney Research that explores the use of handheld projectors to interact and control projected characters. The project explores physical movement of the projection device, much like a motion controller, how it may be used to guide and interact with the virtual/projected characters and interact with physical environment. Our character and racing game applications show how MotionBeam can be applied and used with mobile games. It can also be utilized for augmented reality interaction, by linking projected content to physical objects in the environment. We envision MotionBeam as a key component in a new ‘game projector’ platform where the real world becomes a playground and users interact directly with each other and the environment. The prototype shown is implemented using an iPod Touch 2G, a Microvision ShowWX laser projector, and a microcontroller-sensor unit. The attached sensors include a 9DOF accelerometer/gyroscope/magnetometer board, an ultrasonic distance sensor (MaxSonar), and an infrared receiver. Applications run in real-time on the device and are written in a combination of C++, OpenGL, and Objective-C For more info visit the official page …

HOW TO: Use YTLive Web App To Watch YouTube Live Streams On iOS Devices

HOW TO: Use YTLive Web App To Watch YouTube Live Streams On iOS Devices Post from: FSMdotCOM Watching YouTube on an iOS device can be a pleasant experience, unless you’re trying to view the service’s Live content. YouTube Live — its answer to Ustream, Livestream, and other streaming video services — was recently launched after months of limited trials. Wonderful news, of course, but there is just one catch: it uses Flash to provide the streaming instead of HTML5. At first, this meant iOS users were left uninvited to the party, but a savvy developer sensed the coming frustration and built YTLive, a web app enabling YouTube Live streams on Safari. Let’s see how to use it. 1. Go to http://youtube.com/live/ 2. Enter the selected channel and copy the link on the Streaming Title (Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr9CHCH6dYE) 3. Go to http://l1-live.appspot.com/ and paste the copied streaming title into the appropriate box and tap on watch. 4. That’s it, enjoy. NOTE: Only works in Safari, and iOS 3.3 and newer. HOW TO: Use redsn0w 0.9.6rc13 To Untethered Jailbreak The iPhone 3Gs, iPod Touch 3G/4G and iPad 1 Running iOS 4.3.2 [ Mac and Windows]

ios, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, news April 19th, 2011

HOW TO: Use redsn0w 0.9.6rc13 To Untethered Jailbreak The iPhone 3Gs, iPod Touch 3G/4G and iPad 1 Running iOS 4.3.2 [ Mac and Windows] Post from: FSMdotCOM Only a few weeks after the 4.3.1 untether created by  @i0n1c was released, Apple pushed out firmware 4.3.2. Thankfully, it appears Apple didn’t have a chance to fix the hole used by @i0n1c’s untether, so he ported his code over to 4.3.2’s kernel.  Today’s redsn0w has been updated to include it. The 4.3.2 untether works on all devices that actually support 4.3.2 except for the iPad2: iPhone3GS iPhone4 (GSM) iPhone4 users please wait for a pending fix iPod touch 3G iPod touch 4G iPad1 As always, ultrasn0w unlockers should stay away from redsn0w and only update their firmware through a custom IPSW. We’ll release a new version of PwnageTool sometime this week. Note that many people are currently having problems updating to 4.3.2 through saurik’s server. You’ll need to remove the gs.apple.com entry in your hosts file in order to restore directly to Apple’s servers. NOTES FOR UNLOCKERS: redsn0w will allow you to update your iPhone’s baseband to 06.15 ( iPad baseband ) . This is only necessary if you are on baseband 05.14, 05.15 or higher and you want to unlock. This is NOT necessary for the jailbreaking process. Also please read ( twice if you need to ) the notes below and  understand the  CONSEQUENCES OF UPDATING TO 06.15. There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there’s no hiding the baseband version from Apple.  You’ll be voiding your warranty in a very obvious way. If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won’t be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn’t update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway). Starting with FW 4.2.1 if you have 06.15 on your iPhone you won’t ever be able to restore to stock firmware(it will fail).  You’ll need to only restore to custom IPSWs (then again, if you’re unlocking, you should already be doing that). Certainly don’t update to 06.15 if you don’t need to!   Only do this if you need the unlock and you’re stuck on 05.14 or 05.15, and you’re willing to assume the above risks. You also might be interested in the permanent unlocking solution we have to offer…… You need: redsn0w 0.9.6rc13 for Mac or Windows iOS 4.3.2 ( iPhone 3Gs , iPad 1 , iPod Touch 3G , iPod Touch 4G ) How to: 1. Download redsn0w and unzip it. Also download iOS 4.3.2 appropriate for your device 2. Connect your device to iTunes, select your device from the sidebar on the left and Alt+click ( Mac ) or Shift+click ( Windows ) on restore. Browse for iOS 4.2.1 that you just downloaded and restore your device ( unlockers be careful ) 3. After you restore your device, load redsn0w, click the browse button and select the same 4.3.2 .ipsw that you used to restore your device. 4. Wait for redsn0w to verify the .ipsw and click Next 5. Wait a few seconds for redsn0w to prepare the jailbreaking data 6. In the next window select the option you like. MAKE SURE Cydia is selected and click Next NOTE Bootlogo rules: RGB or Grayscale format with Alpha channel and dimension below 320×480. NOTE if you choose to update your iPhone’s baseband to 06.15 you will be prompted with this message ( please make sure you understand the consequences – notes above ) 7. Plug-in your device, turn it off and click on Next 8. Now you will have to put your device in DFU mode. redsn0w will guide you through it… 9. Now, your device will reboot. The rest of the process will take place on your device. Wait for redsn0w to prompt you that it’s done, and click on Finish 10. That’s it. Enjoy!
