Sony shows off new audio systems, iPhone game celebrates Earth Day, company works on next level iPhone camera software

game, iPhone, news, software April 23rd, 2012

Sony has unveiled new audio systems that are designed to work with both the iPhone and the iPad. They have docks on the front and one version has a CD player inside as well. If you’re a fan of the XEOPlay game Tilt World you could have earned double points on Earth Day over the weekend. The CEO of the company promised to go to Madagascar to plant trees if players earned 3 million points. I wonder if that happened. A company called Arcturus Labs has announced that it’s trying to take the iPhone camera to the next level with a product called Magnifi. The product will allow the iPhone to be attached microscopes, telescopes, and other devices so it’s easier to see what the lens is looking at.

Apple looks at wireless server hopes for stores, rising doesn’t mention iPhone, Star Wars Kinect app launches

app, iPhone, news, verizon April 19th, 2012

A rumor is floating around that Apple is looking at adding wireless server hubs to its Genius Bars in retail stores. The idea is to allow the backup of files right away before replacing the iOS device rather than trying to use iCloud in stores. Verizon outlines its financials for Q1 2012 today and had impressive profits and revenue. Surprisingly the company was mum on how well it did with the iPhone, which presumably means that iPhone sales for Verizon weren’t as good as they had been in earlier quarters. Microsoft is launching a new app to help promote the new Xbox 360 Star Wars Kinect video game. The app will give more information on the video game and allow users to order the game, but the coolest part is that interfaces with Facebook and twitter accounts and scrolls the feed like the opening sequence of Star Wars.

T-Mobile has 1 million edge iPhones, stolen phone database in the works, Apple could be sued for e-book price-fixing

iPhone, news April 11th, 2012

AT&T recently announced that it would unlock off contract iPhones. This could be a big deal for T-Mobile since it already has 1 million iPhones on its network even though the devices run at slower speeds for data networks. The FCC and carriers in the United States are banding together to plan a stolen phone database . The database will ensure that if your iPhone the stolen, never takes it can’t activate it and use your phone. The Department of Justice could file suit against Apple as early as today over price-fixing in the e-book market. Apple and five publishers are currently being investigated for price-fixing.

Galileo robotic iPhone stand and Apple eyes wireless power

iPhone, news, stand April 6th, 2012

A cool new iPhone stand has turned up called the Galileo . This robotic stand is on Kickstarter trying to raise the funds to come to the real world. The project was looking to raise $100,000 and Kickstarter and has so far raised $400,000. Galileo is controlled by an app and has infinite sphere rotation capability to put the iPhone in almost any orientation. It can rotate at 200° per second. The stand is recommended for things like video calls, remote learning, cinematography, and more. Apple is also looking at wireless power according to a new patent application. The patent application is called “Active Electronic Media Packaging” and is for a method that would allow power to be sent wirelessly to devices such as the iPhone on display in a retail setting. I don’t see why the same tech wouldn’t work a home either.

Some iPhone 4 users can get $15, Apple products in half of US homes

iPad, iPhone, news March 29th, 2012

If you own an iPhone 4 I’m sure you remember the antennagate scandal when the device first launched. The scandal had to do with what people tell the phone a certain way they could lose antenna strength. Steve Jobs famously quipped people shouldn’t hold it like that. If you own an iPhone 4 and didn’t take Apple up on its offer of a free bumper in the original settlement, you can now claim $15. There are caveats to the settlement though namely you had to have suffered from the intent issue and not been able to return the phone without being out-of-pocket. A new survey has shown that Apple products are now in half of all homes in the United States. Many those products will be the iPhone and iPad, and more still will be iPods. There are an ever-increasing number of Mac computers in homes as well. The survey also showed that one in 10 people that don’t own an Apple product into the by one within the next year.
