A new iOS update is tipped to be coming sometime this week to patch problems Apple has been having with things such as synchronizing with Microsoft Exchange servers. The new update is tipped to bring iOS to version 6.1.2. Staples will begin carrying Apple gadgets soon. Having another outlet to search for your next Apple gadget purchase is a good thing and Staples often offers very nice special deals. Dropbox for iOS has been updated with some nice new features. The update brings the app to version 2.1 and adds in notifications and a PDF reader.

Alicia Keys blames hacker for iPhone tweet, iOS 6.1.1 fixes 4S issues, Home Depot ditches BlackBerry for iPhone

Singer Alicia Keys recently became the official celebrity director for BlackBerry. She also recently had a tweet posted via her official account from the iPhone causing some embarrassment. Keys says that she was hacked and didn’t make the post. iOS 6.1.1 includes a fix that may impact cellular performance and reliability. Apparently, users of the iPhone 4S were among the first to get the update that comes not long after many carriers warned users against updating to iOS 6.1. Home Depot has ditched the BlackBerry smartphones that it gives out to its managers and corporate employees. Instead, about 100,000 workers will get iPhones.

IPhone 5S rumor, Sky+ iPhone app turns into a remote, Apple Store now sells iOS guitar

A new rumor has surfaced pointing to the next generation iPhone coming possibly as soon as six months from now called the iPhone 5S . According to the rumor the device will be released some time in Q1 of 2013. Sky TV subscribers are now be to use their iPhone as a remote control for their Sky+ HD set top boxes. An app now available for the iPhone turns the device into a fully functional remote control. Apple has added a new iOS enabled Fender full-size guitar to its online catalog. The guitar allows you to plug in your iPhone to support recording directly to GarageBand.

If you watch the news, surf the web, or read the paper it’s hard to miss the fact that the gigantic storm is bearing down on the East Coast. Flooding is expected in some of the lower lying areas of major cities including New York. Apple has prepared its flagship Fifth Avenue store to defend against flooding. Workers at the store have arranged a barricade of sandbags roughly a foot and a half tall at the entrance to the store to keep water away. While Apple is trying to protect the store from flooding, the company has booted a former executive from its staff. Apple has reportedly sent Scott Forstall, senior vice president of iOS packing. Forstall will apparently remain with the company for a while and indications are he was fired for refusing to put his name on a letter of apology for the Apple Maps debacle.

The latest statistics from analytics firm IDC have been released for the smartphone market. According to the latest stats Android and iOS devices account for 85% of all shipped smartphones. A major smoking gun has surfaced in the legal battle between Samsung and Apple over alleged copying of the iPhone. Slides from Samsung show where Samsung specifically compared its offerings to the iPhone and instructed staff to add features. Developers poking through the latest version of iOS 6 have uncovered a clue hinting at the display for the next iPhone. The resolution indicated is 640 x 1136 for the next device.

Apple and TomTom team for maps, Epson XP-400 supports printing from iPhone, iTunes updated for iOS 6.0

Apple and GPS company TomTom have signed a new deal for maps. TomTom is providing the mapping data for Apple’s new custom maps application that debuted yesterday with iOS 6.0 at WWDC. Epson has unveiled a new printer called the Expression XP-400 Small-in-One . It will print, copy, and scan all taking up little space and supports direct printing from the iPhone. iTunes is been updated to version 10.6.3 with support for iOS 6.0. The new version of iTunes is available right now for download.

iOS 5.1.x untethered jailbreak, iPhone keyboard, iOS 6 Siri API

If you are anxiously waiting for the untethered iOS 5.1.x jailbreak to land, the developer says it’s coming in a few weeks. The jailbreak will work with any iOS device running 5.1.1 except ATV3 devices and support for that may come eventually. The iPhone could gain one of the key BlackBerry 10 features before the new BlackBerry devices hit store shelves. According to the developer behind the Octopus Keyboard for iOS , he has been cooking up a keyboard with the floating text prediction system used by RIM. A few tidbits about iOS 6 have been surfacing recently. You already know Apple has ousted Google Maps from iOS, and now we hear that Siri will be expanding beyond the iPhone and an API will be offered.

According to reports , Google is making more money off of Apple’s iOS and it makes from Android. This claim comes from an analyst called Horace Dediu from Asymco based on documents that surfaced in a recent court case. Comscore’s latest numbers are in and the research firm says iOS and Android are dominating the mobile landscape. In February of 2012, the Google operating system had 50.1% of smartphone subscribers and Apple had 30.2%. The Comscore report also showed that iPhone users are much more likely to use Wi-Fi than Android users. 71% of iPhones connect to Wi-Fi and mobile network while only 32% of Android devices connect Wi-Fi.

iPhoto on iOS devices has stopped using Google Maps in the latest distancing action between Apple and Google. Instead, Apple is now using its own maps and apparently is not licensing third-party maps. According to the latest Comscore numbers , the use of iOS and Android smartphones is up. At the same, time the use of BlackBerry and Microsoft mobile phones is down. Scoot Networks is a new startup in China that offers users the ability to rent electric scooters by the hour. These electric scooters have an iPhone under a waterproof cover that acts as the brains of the entire system.
