SHAtter exploit fixes closed jailbreakme.com loophole, Verizon might not accept Apple contract, FaceTime not available in UAE

facetime, iPhone, news September 27th, 2010

A new exploit has surfaced that reopens the loophole that Apple closed not long ago that allows the remote unlocking of iOS devices using Jailbreakme.com. The exploit is called SHAtter and will let the iPhone 4 user get iOS updates and keep carrier unlocks in place. The rumors have been swirling about the iPhone coming to Verizon for a long time. The latest rumors have spawned concern that Verizon might not accept Apple’s contract terms in order to preserve its Android market. iPhone fans in the UAE can get the smartphone soon, but they will not be able to get FaceTime . The feature will not be supported when the device launches in the UAE and possibly in some other Middle East locations.

New And Improved YouTube And FaceTime Features In iOS 4.2 Beta 1

facetime, news September 16th, 2010

New And Improved YouTube And FaceTime Features In iOS 4.2 Beta 1 Post from: FSMdotCOM Of course, being an early beta, iOS 4.2 is not yet ready for public use, as the software still has many bugs and issues that must be addressed before the November launch. Because of bugs and issues, Apple has reportedly recommended to its developers that they only install the iOS 4.2 beta on devices that will be used exclusively to test the software. The biggest problems are said to lie with the baseband on the iPhone when running the first beta. Calls sometimes do not connect, and text messages can take a great deal of time to send. We discovered most of the new features of iOS 4.2 beta 1 ( here , here and here ) , but let’s take a look at some new features that we missed and some improved ones. YouTube voting The built-in YouTube application now features the ability to rank videos. Like on the website itself, iOS users can now give a virtual “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” to content on the site. While the YouTube application on the iPhone has stayed mostly the same since the device launched in 2007, Google this summer revamped its mobile site, allowing users to access more features in its HTML5-based website at m.youtube.com. Apple’s latest addition to the YouTube application brings a feature that has existed on the full and mobile versions of the site to the standalone iOS application. FaceTime link in Messages app Accessibility to FaceTime will become even greater in iOS 4.2, as a direct video chat link is now included in the iPhone’s built-in text messaging application. When in a conversation in the Messages app, a “FaceTime” button now rests in between the “Call” and “Contact Info” selections. Support for CoreMIDI The first beta of iOS 4.2 adds support for the CoreMIDI framework to the operating system’s application program interfaces. This could suggest that future applications would allow new avenues for musical creation, and could also allow physical MIDI instruments connectors. MIDI, or Musical Instrument Digital Interface, is an industry standard that allows electronic music machines to synchronize and communicate. With an adapter, a device like an iPhone could theoretically create and record sounds from a MIDI instrument. New restrictions Apple has also added a handful of new restrictions in the Settings application. Users can now prevent the deleting of App Store software, and may prevent changes to accounts in the Mail application. iTunes link in iPad Videos app Users can quickly find more content on iTunes with a new direct link within the iPad’s Videos application. When viewing a list of TV episodes on the device, users are now presented with the option to find more episodes of that program through the iTunes store. [ via AppleInsider]

facetime, ios 4, iphone 4, news, T-Mobile August 27th, 2010

MiTime: Enable FaceTime On T-Mobile And Other Unsupported Carriers [video] Post from: FSMdotCOM The developer of PushFix has released a new app called MiTime which activates FaceTime on phones that are operating on unofficial carriers such as T-Mobile US. It should work worldwide and will use two SMS messages to activate. You must be able to receive an international SMS message to get activated ( If you have any doubt, please use this site to test whether you can receive a message from the UK – the default setting ). MiTime costs $5.99 but, unfortunately, new sales are suspended until a new version of the app comes out. For more info, visit the official website …

How To: Change Your FaceTime Name

facetime, iPhone, iphone 4, news August 19th, 2010

How To: Change Your FaceTime Name Post from: FSMdotCOM Bored with “FaceTime” calls? Not the FaceTime its self, but want to spice up what its called? Maybe some HammerTime? You’ll need to SSH in (I like YummyFTP) or use something like PhoneView and a text editor. Just edit these files: /System/Library/Frameworks/AddressBookUI.framework/English.lproj/vc~AB.strings /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Conference.framework/English.lproj/vc~Conference.strings /private/var/stash/Applications/Preferences.app/English.lproj/vc~Restrictions.strings And change out anything that says FaceTime to what ever you want to call it. You can even call it FSMTime..you get my drift. Don’t forget to back up those stock files, incase something goes wrong.
