iLibertyX, iLiberty+ iPhone unlock hacks

Mac, Unlock, Windows, apps March 30th, 2008

Another neat new program (actually, two of them) popped up online for complete GUI iPhone and jailbreaking. Both of the programs (one is for Mac, the other is for Windows machines), just like ZiPhone, can unlock any existing and currently available iPhone firmware version (from v1.0.0 to v1.1.4 — it can also jailbreak the iPod Touch).

The programs provide a nice clean, user-friendly interface, and can also fix the no EDGE/Wi-Fi/Bluetooth problem some may have run into. It even automatically shuts down iTunes and detects which type of device is connected (iPhone or iPod Touch), and then changes the settings accordingly.

ToneShop: Free iPhone ringtones maker for Windows

Windows, apps, ringtones March 26th, 2008

Since Apple’s iTunes charge you 99 cents to create a ringtone for your iPhone, while many programs that do the same actually cost you money to download, some folks will be excited to find out about ToneShop, a free iPhone ringtones maker for Windows.

Actually to call it a ringtone maker just for the iPhone would be an understatement — ToneShop can create ringtones in MP3, AAC (M4A), WAV (uncompressed PCM and ADPCM), AMR-NB, AMR-WB (Nokia TrueTones), and MMF (Yamaha SMAF) formats, while the Apple iPhone M4R (AAC) format is just the latest addition to its lineup.

Lotus Notes for iPhone update

Windows, apps, news March 14th, 2008

A cloud of mist surrounds IBM’s Lotus notes. IBM spokesman Mike Azzi said that IBM is working on Notes e-mail application for iPhone 2.0, but he didn’t reveal any more details. Apple did not provide any comment either.

It can be guessed that IBM will use recently launched SDK to develop Lotus Notes for the iPhone 2.0, which will then be distributed over App store.

There are 140 million Lotus Notes and Domino users worldwide, according to IBM, and it would be very wise for both Apple and IBM to release it faster. So far Microsoft Exchange is number one platform.

In the meantime one can use “MartinScott Consulting LLC’s WirelessMail” to forward Lotus Notes emails to Gmail or Yahoo mail.

VPN for iPhone

Windows, apps March 14th, 2008

A pretty nifty new service is now available for those iPhone owners that are concerned about their mobile communications’ security, called VPN Mobile.

Since Apple iPhone and other smart phones have the capability to join countless networks and are always mobile, they are constantly in search of different wireless connections, leaving the door open for data intrusion. Wireless devices like the iPhone have limited in-transit data security options and can lack the ability to secure information sent wirelessly from one machine to another. VPN Mobile provides the additional level of security needed for protected information transmission.

Designed to enable the quick delivery of multimedia and broadband data, EDGE, the wireless data service standard that Apple iPhone is using, is historically known for its vulnerability to intrusions. Secure-Tunnel VPN for iPhone is able to encrypt all EDGE data, ensuring a comprehensive privacy and data security solution for mobile users.
Secure-Tunnel VPN Mobile features:

* Protects otherwise extremely vunerable mobile communications
* Simple configuration, Ready in minutes!
* Strong encryption works on both wifi and cellular data networks
* Included Email account with SSL webmail

VPN for iPhone is available at a subscription price of $5.95 per month or $59.95 annually at Secure Tunnel’s website.

ZiPhone: unlock, jailbreak any iPhone firmware (v1.0.0 – v1.1.4)

Mac, Unlock, Windows March 13th, 2008

A new iPhone jailbreak / iPhone unlock solution was released by Zibri. ZiPhone v2.5c seems to be the easiest and most efficient tool out there to activate, jailbreak, and unlock your iPhone.

The best part is that this iPhone hack works with iPhones of all versions: it can activate / jailbreak / unlock iPhones that run with firmwares: 1.0.0, 1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, and 1.1.4.

Since ZiPhone comes with a graphical user interface, no advanced knowledge of computers or electronics is needed. All you do is download the program (it’s available for both Windows and Mac machines), connect your iPhone to your computer, and run it.

Furthermore, ZiPhone comes with a “refurbish” option — this feature can restore your iPhone to its original state via DFU mode (thus removing all hacks, as opposed to “restore” mode). As such, we were able to successfully upgrade to v1.1.4 and re-unlock an iPhone that was originally unlocked with a very crude v1.0.2 hack (which later didn’t want to work with newer unlockers, due to messed up baseband).
ZiPhone is definitely THE one-in-all tool for the iPhone: it’s easy to understand and use, is compatible with any version of iPhone firmware, and the best part is that it’s completely free.Direct downloads:

- ZiPhone: iPhone v1.0.0-1.1.4 activator / jailbreaker / unlocker for Mac (8.8 MB)

Movies2iPhone: free iPhone video converter (Windows)

Windows, apps March 13th, 2008

Many iPhone users want to transfer their music clips, movies, and just random videos onto their iPhone. However it’s not all that easy to do, at least when your movies library is encoded in different formats and you don’t have professional software to convert the videos into an iPhone compatible format.

That’s where Movies2iPhone by Olivier Ksikes comes in. Movies2iPhone is a completely free video converter (based on FFmpeg) for Windows-powered machines that will convert any movie you have on your PC into an iPhone compatible format, which then could be easily transfered onto your iPhone via iTunes.

movies2iphone

Movies2iPhone supported formats are Divx, Xvid, avi, mpeg, wmv, asf, mov, vob, and more. The software also features support for subtitles, and comes in 7 different languages. However, make sure that you have Windows XP or Windows Vista installed, as it’s not compatible with other operating systems.
Also worth noting is that this is still a beta version, so bugs are still in there: we’ve encountered a few, namely:
- The program can only process English file/folder names (so if your file is named in some other language, just give it an English name, and it will work).
- Occasionally (this bug happened while converting a 2 hour long DiVX movie) the program might give an error and appear to be closing. However, the conversion process will still be running, and as such you just need to wait patiently for it to complete.Direct download:
