HOW TO: Use Your Mac’s Finder To Wirelessly Browse Your iPhone, iPod and iPad

HOW TO: Use Your Mac’s Finder To Wirelessly Browse Your iPhone, iPod and iPad Post from: FSMdotCOM There is no doubt that once you jailbreak your iDevices the world is at your feet. “World at your feet” is too romantic for you? Ok, let me put it this way, if you own an iPhone/iTouch/iPad and you are not jailbroken, you’re a sucka. You can do so much with a jailbroken iDevice, but what about downloading photos, print documents and move files wirelessly using nothing but the Mac OSX Finder? You can do that thanks to Netatalk. Netatalk is a free and open source implementation of Apple Talk for Unix devices which, basically, lets you use Apple’s standard file sharing between a Mac and an iPhone, in the Finder. Read more about netatalk here … This is pretty simple to do. Load Cydia on your iDevice, search for Netatalk ( free ) and install it. Your iDevice will respring, but you should reboot as well. Once your iDevices is back on, take a look at your Finder. You will see your iDevice under the “shared” tab. There’s only one trick: both of your devices should be on the same network. Now, you can hit connect and that is it. The browsing magic begins… NOTE: When you will hit connect, you will be prompted to login with your administrator credentials. You should login with your iDevice’s username and password ( u: root ; p: alpine – if you are still using the default password. We strongly suggest you change it … ) [thx Paolo via macstories ]

iLibertyX, iLiberty+ iPhone unlock hacks

Mac, Unlock, Windows, apps March 30th, 2008

Another neat new program (actually, two of them) popped up online for complete GUI iPhone and jailbreaking. Both of the programs (one is for Mac, the other is for Windows machines), just like ZiPhone, can unlock any existing and currently available iPhone firmware version (from v1.0.0 to v1.1.4 — it can also jailbreak the iPod Touch).

The programs provide a nice clean, user-friendly interface, and can also fix the no EDGE/Wi-Fi/Bluetooth problem some may have run into. It even automatically shuts down iTunes and detects which type of device is connected (iPhone or iPod Touch), and then changes the settings accordingly.

Safari for iPhone leads to advancements in Safari for Mac

Mac, apps, news March 23rd, 2008

Recent developers in WebKit on which Safari is based, ended up in Safari browser for iPhone 2.0 as well as in newly released Safari 3.1.

Apple has implemented HTML 5, CSS 3 and SVG into it. HTML 5 provides a standard for embedded SQL statements into a script code. SVG (scalable vector graphics) brings motion into places where only static bitmap graphics worked before. SQL (through SQLite) and SVG are linked into Safari but not by plug-ins. CSS 3 sets up implicit and explicit animation, and manages both using renderer.

The advancements to Safari are not only the additions of new standards. Apple has also managed to speed up JavaScript performance.

Apple Safari

Early on Apple decided not to include cookies and XML to Safari, and hence ported SQLite from iPhone OS to Safari. It allows JavaScript coders the ability to manage data using real SQL with transaction support. While SQLite is client-sized, it is very powerful for a database that links entirely into your code.Since iPhone has space restrictions, using SQLite forces developers to use space carefully.

The advancements in Safari on iPhone 2.0 are great. In fact, Mac users will want it in their desktops! At least viewing for the developers’ perspective since it allows great stand-alone web apps, and that’s something you can’t do on other browsers.

yFlicks – Home of Your Movies

Mac, apps March 23rd, 2008

Many Tricks has released yFlicks 3.3, updated version of its movie manager and viewer for Mac.

With yFlicks, users can download, tag, organize and view their movies. This update adds coverflow for browsing your movies both in window and fullscreen mode, lets you access your iTunes movies from yFlicks, improves downloading from video communities such as YouTube, and features many other small improvements.

The update also adds stand alone application TubiTunes, which lets you add an online web video (YouTube, CollegeHumor, DailyMotion, Metacafe) to your iTunes library with just one click. Most importantly you can convert movies to iPhone-readable format.

It costs €16.95. However if you have an older version of yFlicks, update will be free. But if it’s a bit too much you can also purchase TubiTunes alone for €4.95. As usual, there is a trial version available for download.

ZiPhone: unlock, jailbreak any iPhone firmware (v1.0.0 – v1.1.4)

Mac, Unlock, Windows March 13th, 2008

A new iPhone jailbreak / iPhone unlock solution was released by Zibri. ZiPhone v2.5c seems to be the easiest and most efficient tool out there to activate, jailbreak, and unlock your iPhone.

The best part is that this iPhone hack works with iPhones of all versions: it can activate / jailbreak / unlock iPhones that run with firmwares: 1.0.0, 1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, and 1.1.4.

Since ZiPhone comes with a graphical user interface, no advanced knowledge of computers or electronics is needed. All you do is download the program (it’s available for both Windows and Mac machines), connect your iPhone to your computer, and run it.

ziphone iphone unlock jailbreak

Furthermore, ZiPhone comes with a “refurbish” option — this feature can restore your iPhone to its original state via DFU mode (thus removing all hacks, as opposed to “restore” mode). As such, we were able to successfully upgrade to v1.1.4 and re-unlock an iPhone that was originally unlocked with a very crude v1.0.2 hack (which later didn’t want to work with newer unlockers, due to messed up baseband).
ZiPhone is definitely THE one-in-all tool for the iPhone: it’s easy to understand and use, is compatible with any version of iPhone firmware, and the best part is that it’s completely free.Direct downloads:
- ZiPhone: iPhone v1.0.0-1.1.4 activator / jailbreaker / unlocker for Windows (10 MB)
- ZiPhone: iPhone v1.0.0-1.1.4 activator / jailbreaker / unlocker for Mac (8.8 MB)
