Skyfire: Browser That Can Play Flash Video Was Submitted To The App Store Post from: FSMdotCOM Skyfire has submitted a mobile browser to Apple’s App Store capable of playing Flash video while adhering to all Apple’s guidelines regarding HTML5 open-video standards on Apple devices, according to a press release published today. Skyfire 2.0 for iPhone follows on the heels of Skyfire’s recent launch on Android, which has now become one of the most popular third-party browsers on Google’s mobile platform, with nearly a million downloads in its first three months. What’s in Skyfire 2.0 for iPhone: Flash Video –The “Video” icon enables users to play millions of Flash videos around the web that otherwise do not play on mobile. This unlocks content trapped behind those error messages with question marks and blue Legos by transcoding the Flash content into HTML5 on Skyfire’s servers. Related Content – The “Explore” icon brings the most relevant content on the Internet to a user’s fingertips based on what they are viewing at the time. The Explore button pulls video, buzz, news, images and other sites from the wbased on what is on the current page. Adherence to Apple’s Standards: Skyfire for iPhone was built in tight accordance to Apple guidelines, including the use of a WebKit browser core shared with Safari, and h.264 adaptive streaming. Skyfire’s famed cloud-computing technology translates Flash video on the fly from millions of web sites into HTML5 formats, and supports iOS devices via Apple’s HTTP live streaming standard. Skyfire also avoids the concerns raised in Steve Jobs’ recent essay regarding Flash on mobile devices. By optimizing Flash for iPhones and network conditions in the Cloud, Skyfire improves performance and maximizes battery life while playing video. The browser also avoids alternate runtime environments and other security vulnerabilities. “We’re excited to submit a mobile browser for iPhone and iPod Touch that addresses Apple’s concerns regarding Flash deployment on mobile devices,” explains Jeff Glueck, CEO of Skyfire. “Rather than enabling Flash, Skyfire will translate videos into Apple standards. Skyfire supports HTML5 but at the same time, we recognize that the transition to HTML5 for 100 million Flash publishers will take years. We hope to bridge that gap and solve a problem for consumers who want access to millions of previously-unavailable videos on their iPhones.” An Advantage for AT&T: Not only does Skyfire enable Flash video while adhering to Apple’s guidelines, it offers a major enhancement to video data compression for AT&T. Skyfire compresses video data by an average of 75%, reducing buffer time, enhancing battery life and easing the network congestion that has caused user complaints in major metropolitan areas. It will be interesting to see how Apple responds to this submission. [ via iClarified]

How To: Install CineXPlayer on your iPhone

AppStore, iPhone, news August 13th, 2010

How To: Install CineXPlayer on your iPhone Post from: FSMdotCOM CineXplayer for the iPad allows you to play multiple formats like AVI’s, on your iPad. Don’t wait for the developers to make an iPhone version. Do it your self. This tutorial was written by @greenlink 8/13/2010 ——————————————————————————————————————— CineXplayer is an iPad only app that allows you to play avi files encoded in Xvid on your ipad. well i got it running on my ipod touch. Video Here Tutorial: *note* you must be jailbroken and install this app through installous for this app to work, as itunes will not (currently) sync/install the app */note* Edits in bold are made by FSM Edit: I was able to Sync using xCode on the Mac, just another benefit of a Dev account. 1. First download the app (duh) 2. now find the *.ipa file OSX: “/users/username/Music/iTunes/Itunes Media” Win XP: “C:Documents and Settings[user name]My DocumentsMy MusiciTunesiTunes MediaMobile Applications” or “C:Documents and Settings[user name]My DocumentsMy MusiciTunesMobile Applications Vista/7: “C:Users[user name]MusiciTunesiTunes MediaMobile Applications” Or “C:Users[user name]MusiciTunesMobile Applications” 3. open the ipa file in winrar (or  ,similar program), don’t unzip it. Edit: I used 7zip on my windows VM on a Mac 4. In winrar open (double click) the folder named ‘Payload’, then ‘CineXplayer.app’ 5. then extract the info.plist to your desktop (or where ever you want, i don’t care) and open it in a plist editor ( I used plist editor for windows) 6. Change: <key>UIDeviceFamily</key> <array> <integer>2</integer> </array> To: <key>UIDeviceFamily</key> <array> <integer>1</integer> </array> Edit: I added the second Key and made it universal, instead of taking the 2 out. Just add the 1 7. save you modified info.plist file 8. drag your newly edited info.plist file back over to the winrar window to overwrite the old info.plist file (if it promps you, click yes) 9. exit winrar and copy the cineXplayer.ipa file to your device (via ssh or ftp or whatever) to ‘/var/mobile/Documents/Installous/Downloads/’ Edit: I don’t like Installous, even for this..but it is a free app that you are just changing, so in this case, maybe its alright. 10. on your device install the ipa via installous if you don’t know what im talking about: 10.1 open installous (if you don’t have installous, install it via cydia) 10.2 tap on ‘Downloads’, ‘cinexplayer.ipa’, then ‘install’ 10.3 wait for installous to tell you it has finsihed installing 11. congrats! you now have an ipad app running on your ipod touch/iphone

iPhone 4 Optimized Apps Are Are Nearly Fullscreen On The iPad

App Store, AppStore, iPad, iphone 4, news June 14th, 2010

iPhone 4 Optimized Apps Are Are Nearly Fullscreen On The iPad Post from: FSMdotCOM We told you how to make iPhone apps iPad compatible ( the manual way ) and we also told you about a Cydia app that will force iPhone apps to go full screen on the iPad. Even so, both methods will only get you drunk with cold water. If you double the size of apps, the touch zones are redrawn in all the wrong places and some apps might not even render or just crash… But with the new Retina Display introduced by Apple with the new iPhone 4, devs will have much more to work with in terms of UI and the apps will nearly be fullscreen on the iPad.
