This is an early review of Ant Raid for the iPhone, it#8217;s released on the 26th January. Originally an iPad-only game, Ant Raid has now been shrunk down to fit on the iPhone by developers Prank Entertainment.  At its heart, Ant Raid is a tower defense game, but with real-time strategy overtones; however the attention to pa href=”http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/kh5D4rJXawJtxeENeOIFBL2tkCM/0/da”img src=”http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/kh5D4rJXawJtxeENeOIFBL2tkCM/0/di” border=”0″ ismap=”true”/img/abr/ a href=”http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/kh5D4rJXawJtxeENeOIFBL2tkCM/1/da”img src=”http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/kh5D4rJXawJtxeENeOIFBL2tkCM/1/di” border=”0″ ismap=”true”/img/a/pdiv class=”feedflare” a href=”http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/iphone-freak?a=emf3pf_vYTA:NYrd3kI0xFc:yIl2AUoC8zA”img src=”http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/iphone-freak?d=yIl2AUoC8zA” border=”0″/img/a /divimg src=”http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/iphone-freak/~4/emf3pf_vYTA” height=”1″ width=”1″/

Nissan Scratch Shield case, Renew Sleep clock, iOS controlled military drone helicopter

app, case, iPhone, news January 16th, 2012

Nissan of all companies has rolled out a new case for the iPhone called the Nissan Scratch Shield . Any scratches to the case will be self-healed thanks to a special gel-like finish. The new Renew SleepClock for the iPhone will be coming this March for $199. The clock has sensors for monitoring user breathing and movement to log your sleep cycle. The Navy is thinking about using iOS devices to allow control of its drone RoboCopters. Having flown toy helicopters that use iOS devices fro control, I hope the Navy has better apps.

China 4S launch gets violent, Apple fueled clash with delays, NASA mars app

app, Apple, china, iPhone, news January 13th, 2012

The launch of the iPhone 4S in China was a big deal and drew huge crowds to get the new smartphone. The Apple Store in Sanlitun decided the crowd was too large and opted to not open due to fear of customers and employees being hurt. That led to some in the crowd “abusing” store workers. After the Chinese launch issues that went on at the iPhone 4S launch with eggs thrown and violence one analyst said the violence was in part Apples fault . Canalys’ Nicole Peng said that Chinese fans don’t want to have to wait for new gadgets. NASA has launched a cool new app for the iPhone. The app is called Mars Images and shares photos from the Opportunity rover as soon as NASA gets them.

Weird Brisksaber app is sort of cool

app, game, news, star wars January 9th, 2012

If you are a fan of Star Wars or Lipton Brisk tea, a new app is out for iOS that you might want to check out. Lipton and Star Wars are teaming to advertise the coming Phantom menace flick in 3D. To celebrate the tie up the app is called Brisksaber and it is available right now for download. The app has Darth Maul speaking, which is odd considering he rarely speak in the original. He hops around talking and playing with his lightsaber until he drinks a tea and gets happy. Apparently, Yoda and some other Jedi are in the ads too. I’m not sure what to think of the 3D treatment on the films. I wasn’t a huge fan of the new films to start with. Obviously, any fan will have to see the 3D flicks if for no other reason than to be able to complain about how bad they suck. [youtube LwabxgoSGZY] [ via SlashGear]

iMAME App on App Store for now

app, gaming, iPhone, news December 22nd, 2011

We have all seen Apple approve some very strange apps, then turn around, and remove them from the app store citing violations of one form or another. Things like that shake the baby app for instance. Apple has a history of not allowing unofficial arcade game emulators on the App Store. One such unofficial emulator is on the App Store right now. It is called iMAME and it has a virtual arcade cabinet with controls surrounding the game on your screen. We suspect the app might not stay on the App Store very long. The app has games called Circus, Side Track, and Hard Hat by default. The thing that is likely to get the app pulled is that you can add your own ROMs, thus allowing you to toss other games on and those games could be Atari classics for instance. Grab the app while you can if you are a fan. The app is compatible with the iCade as well. [ via SlashGear]

Apple tablet ban overturned in Au, iOS shuns ESRB ratings

Android, app, Apple, game, news November 30th, 2011

The ESRB ratings on video games for consoles and PCs all use letters to warn when a game might not be appropriate for kids. Apple and Google will not use the new mobile Application Rating system apparently essentially making it dead before it launches. I would assume that Apple and Android will have their own ratings system. Apple already puts apps into categories and if the app is too mature in theme, it simply won’t allow the app on the site. In other news, the sales ban that Apple has had on Samsung tablets in Australia has come to an end. The sales injunction in Australia has been overthrown in appeal. The court went so far to call the original sales ban “clearly wrong.” I wonder if Samsung will sue Apple for lost sales at this point.

app, iPhone, news October 25th, 2011

ThinkGeek has a cool new accessory for the iPhone 4S that will ship next April called Iris 9000 voice control module for Siri. The device looks like HAL 9000 and allows for controlling Siri from across the room along with being usable as a speakerphone. If you have an Escort Radar detector a new power cord called the SmartCord Live will soon ship. It connects to the iPhone when running an app to warn when other users encounter a speed trap. Fujitsu has announced an update for several ScanSnap scanners. The update allows the scanners to scan documents right to the iPhone or iPad using an app.
