Your iOS device(s) must already run a supported stock iOS. DO NOT restore and use this tool if you need to unlock. If you need to preserver your baseband to unlock, restore your iPhone 4 ( ONLY!!!! ) device through TinyUmbrella ( link above ) NOTE: before you restore, save your SHSH blobs, if you didn’t do it already. Tutorial here … 3. Run Limera1n 4. Click on make it ra1n 5. Your iOS device will enter in recovery mode 6. Now you will need to press the Home+Power button to enter the device in DFU mode. Follow instructions on the screen… 7. Now, you will see the image of a lime ra1ndrop on your device’s screen. 8. After a few seconds Limera1n will let you know that it’s done.. 9. After your iOS device powers back on, you will see a new icon on the HomeScreen called Limera1n. Load it… 10. Once Limera1n opens select Cydia then press the Install button at the top right of the screen. 11. If Cydia won’t show up on your SpringBoard after installation, restart your device. 12. That’s it. Done deal… NOTE: do not use this tool if you need to unlock. Wait for PwnageTool, or if you have an iPhone 4, restore your iPhone through TinyUmbrella ( BE CAREFUL ) Tweet

GeoHot

news October 14th, 2010

GeoHot’s Bootrom Exploit Ported Into PwnageTool Post from: FSMdotCOM The iPhone DevTeam just announced that they ported GeoHot’s bootrom exploit into PwnageTool. The new version of the tool should drop Sunday, but still it’s just an ETA. We will make sure to keep you updated. Stay tuned… PwnageTool is a jailbreaking tool for Mac, which you can use to create custom firmwares in order to jailbreak your iOS devices. In case of the iPhone, a custom firmware will not update the baseband hence you can update to a higher version of iOS and still unlock it. So far, you can only update to iOS 4.1 and still preserve your baseband, ONLY through TinyUmbrella AND ONLY for iPhone 4. Find out how … Tweet

3g Unrestrictor Update Coming Soon For iOS 4.1 And FaceTime Calls

Cydia, news October 14th, 2010

3g Unrestrictor Update Coming Soon For iOS 4.1 And FaceTime Calls Post from: FSMdotCOM Popular jailbreak app, 3G Unrestrictor, is getting a new update shortly, targeting the iPhone 4′s ability to make FaceTime calls over the 3G network. The developer Crash-X ( @crashx ) has submitted a couple of betas for testing, and all seems well. So expect this to hit Cydia pretty soon. If you don’t know what 3G Unrestrictor is, its an app that allows you to remove, on an App by App basis, the WiFi only restrictions placed on some apps. Like some music streaming apps, the App Store, and YouTube. These apps either lower the quality of the streamed content, or don’t allow it at all. If you already have the app, and it isn’t working for FaceTime calls, there is a little work around. Add the MobilePhone in 3G Unrestrictor Enable the isDirect flag for MobilePhone Make sure your Wifi is on, you do not need to be connected to a network, but it does need to be on. To disconnect from your current network, tap the arrow button in the WiFi settings of the current network, and tap forget this network. We just finished testing the new version and its working great. Why Do GreenPois0n And Limera1n Not Support Boot Logos And Verbose Boot?

news October 13th, 2010

Why Do GreenPois0n And Limera1n Not Support Boot Logos And Verbose Boot? Post from: FSMdotCOM Both greenpois0n and limera1n use the same bootrom exploit and pretty much the same way of applying the jailbreak to your device. Geohot’s bootrom exploit is a tethered exploit, meaning that it is not able of booting a patched bootchain. So, what they actually do is use this bootrom exploit as an “injection vector” in order to apply kernel patches (userland jailbreak). You see, when JailbreakMe 2.0 was released by comex, they used 2 exploits to inject the kernel exploit. IOSurface Kernel Exploit along with Malformed CFF vulnerability were used to get root privileges in order to apply the kernel patches. Bootlogo’s and verbose boot were not possible, (at least not possible as we know them) because the bootchain is actually not touched (LLB and iBoot are being code signed and well). This is pretty much the same with limera1n and greenpois0n. Geohot’s bootrom exploit is used to obtain root privileges (instead of the 2 exploits that that Star uses that are necessary to obtain root). The bootchain is not touched or jailbroken until the patched kernel kicks in. In fact, you just have a userland jailbreak, applied using a bootrom exploit. For custom bootlogo’s and/or a verbose boot, you will need a patched iBoot, which you simply just don’t have when you are jailbroken by a userland jailbreak. Again, note that this is just a general description, don’t try to argument on specific technical details. [via @veeence ] Tweet
