AT&T’s iPhone unlimited plan, where’s the $20 unlimited SMS text message option?

AT&T March 16th, 2008

Posted by Vincent NguyenOk, I’m confused. Back when AT&T announced the $99.00 unlimited option, it was my understanding that existing and new iPhone owners have the option to pick the $99.99 unlimited voice in addition, pay $20 for 200 SMS text messaging and unlimited web/email. Then if they want unlimited text, tact an additional $20 to the plan. The grand total comes out to $140.

Carbon Fiber iPhone case

accessories, cases March 16th, 2008

Are you paranoid of dropping or damaging your iPhone and have a ton of cash to blow? Well you’re in luck because Belch Co. offers a case made from carbon fiber for $79.99. From what I can gather, the case snugly fits over the iPhone.

Sybase iAnywhere: Enterprise mail solution for the iPhone

apps March 16th, 2008

While Lotus Notes and Exchange Server are still in development, Sybase has decided to take matters into their hands and make their own corporate e-mail solution.

Their method utilises standard iPhone mail client, together with Information Anywhere suit to access corporate mails on the server.

You can check the video of it here.

ianywhere.jpg
It uses IMAP/SMTP protocols, however iAnywhere keeps the information secured. So you can check and receive mails, check corporate directory using iPhones Safari browser, you can even check recent contacts while being offline, as well as writing email, and as soon as you are connected it will send mails automatically. And all this without compromising enterprise security. While Exchange will use ActiveSync, Lotus notes will need to use something different. Maybe even iAnywhere solution? In such case it would be a huge win for Sybase.

It is unclear now how much Sybase iAnywhere suite will cost, but it’s great to see that there are alternatives.

Thanks: Zdnet

Apple rejected massive number of iPhone SDK applicants

SDK March 16th, 2008

If you received the rejection letter below, don’t take it personal. You’ll be happy (or sad – depending on how you look at it) that a lot of other folks are in the same boat. Apple did say in the press release accompanying the SDK announcement that “a limited number of developers will be accepted into Apple’s new iPhone Developer Program,” priced at $99.

Dear Registered iPhone Developer,

Thank you for expressing interest in the iPhone Developer Program. We have received your enrollment request. At this time, the iPhone Developer Program is available to a limited number of developers and we plan to expand the program during the course of the beta period. We will contact you again regarding your enrollment status at the appropriate time. Thank you for applying.

Best regards, iPhone Developer Program.

Apple recently announced that the SDK was downloaded more than 100,000 times. That’s a healthy number by any means.

Google: We’ll far outsell iPhone; our SDK lets you do more

SDK March 16th, 2008

If Google’s Rich Miner was a developer, he’d be coding for the iPhone; however, he’s actually Group Manager for Mobile Platforms, and as such is more interested in boosting Android’s profile with confident predictions that handsets based on the platform will wildly outsell Apple’s cellphone.

“Once you have devices out there from Motorola, HTC, Samsung, and so on, there’s a much larger potential market on Android than for the iPhone. [Apple is] a single manufacturer, it’s targeted at a particular demographic, and it falls far short of the 1 billion mobile phones sold every year worldwide” Rich Miner, Google
